Church of Pentecost-Mpoasei District Declares March as Sanitation Month to Combat Filth and Disease

The Church of Pentecost-Mpoasei District has declared the month of March as Sanitation Month, embarking on a bold initiative to tackle filth and the growing risk of diseases in local communities.

District Pastor Gilbert John Ayamah expressed concern over the alarming state of sanitation, stating that filth has overtaken the communities, posing a serious threat to public health.

“If we don’t act now, diseases like cholera, tuberculosis, and other deadly infections will begin to spread in our communities,” Pastor Ayamah warned, emphasising the urgency of taking action.

The pastor highlighted the troubling situation where people are selling foods near gutters filled with waste, exacerbating the health crisis.

He stated, “It does not reflect well on the church for us to sit idly while our communities drown in filth. This is a major problem, and we must take responsibility.”

To address this, the Church of Pentecost-Mpoasei District will lead a community-wide cleanup drive throughout March.

Pastor Ayamah has called on all church members to participate and urged them not to hesitate when they hear the whistle signaling the start of the cleanup.

“Let us come together and clean our environment to prevent the spread of diseases,” he said.

The initiative will not stop at cleanup; the church plans to collaborate with local authorities, including the Dansoman police commander, the Ablekuma West Municipal Chief Executive Officer, and other stakeholders with the municipality to enforce sanitation rules in the aftermath of the exercise.

This will ensure that waste dumping in public spaces does not resume, creating lasting change for the community.

The church has also been actively involved in resolving flooding issues in the Dansoman-Yellow House to Glefe area.

Severe floods during the rainy season have caused significant disruption, damaging homes, businesses, and infrastructure. To mitigate this, the church has spearheaded the construction of a drainage system valued at GHS 667,000.

Currently nearing completion, the drainage system requires additional funds to be fully operational.

Pastor Ayamah has made an appeal to NGOs, philanthropists, and individuals to contribute towards the completion of this essential project. “Together, we can make a difference,” he said. “We hope that this initiative will inspire others to contribute to the welfare of our community.”
