Chief of Staff Calls for Private Sector Investment in Ghana Football

Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has issued a strong call to the private sector to invest in Ghanaian football, as the country embarks on a new era of professionalisation and transparency in its premier league operations.

Speaking at the official launch of a landmark partnership between the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Adesa Production Limited (APL) on Thursday, Mr. Debrah stressed that football’s revival cannot rest solely on government shoulders and that private capital and corporate commitment are vital to sustaining the transformation.

“This model is designed to ignite transformation,” Debrah said at the ceremony held at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra. “The President has directed that all ministries, departments, and agencies align with this process. But government cannot do this alone.”

He continued, “The call today is to the private sector: step forward and partner with us. Ghanaian football is ready for your investment. And now, more than ever, there is a structured, transparent system to ensure your partnership yields value for both your brand and our nation.”

The partnership with Adesa Production Limited, a subsidiary of Media General, positions the company as the official producer of the Ghana Premier League (GPL) for the 2025/26 season. It is expected to raise production standards and broadcast quality, as well as enhance league visibility and marketability.

As part of the agreement, each Premier League club will receive GHS 1 million ahead of the season kickoff—a financial boost aimed at ensuring stability and improved performance on and off the pitch.

The 2025/26 season is set to begin in mid-September and run through to May 2026, in line with preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Stakeholders at the launch hailed the new partnership as a bold step toward professionalising the local game, which has long struggled with underfunding, poor infrastructure, and declining fan interest.

The initiative aligns with broader reforms being pursued by the Ghana Football Association under its new strategic framework and is seen as a model for attracting sustained investment into sports development nationwide.
