Calling NPP A “Fake Party” Is Irresponsible – Freddie Blay Slams Frimpong-Boateng

Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, has taken a swipe at former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, over his description of the NPP as a “fake party”.

Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News on Tuesday, January 27, Blay said the comments were deeply insulting, especially coming from someone who continues to identify as a member of the party.

He attributed the situation to the openness of democratic systems, which permit individuals to freely express their views, even when those views are harmful to their own organisations.

“Anybody who talks like that is talking irresponsibly, especially when he claims to be a member of the party. It is reckless when you talk like that. It is democracy that has suffered. When you say you are going by democracy, you allow people to say what they want, and then you defend them with your life; even when they are talking foolishly, you take it like that,” he said.

Blay’s remarks follow an interview on The Point of View on Channel One TV, hosted by Bernard Avle, in which Prof. Frimpong-Boateng described the NPP as a “fake party” and said he no longer recognised its current leadership.

Despite the criticism, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng has maintained that he has no intention of leaving the NPP, even as the party initiates processes that could lead to his expulsion over the comments.

He has also stated that he will not honour any invitation to appear before the party’s National Executive Committee or Disciplinary Committee.
