Assembly member for the Agona Asafo Electoral Area in the Agona East District of the Central Region, Ishmael Odoom, has sustained a gunshot wound during a daylight robbery attack in the community.
Reports indicate that the incident occurred around 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 5, when armed robbers opened fire while carrying out attacks on shops, vendors and bystanders at Agona Asafo.
The sporadic gunshots caused panic among residents and traders as the assailants reportedly made away with an unspecified amount of cash from their victims.

The assembly member was hit by a stray bullet during the incident.
He was rushed to the Agona Swedru Government Hospital, where he received initial treatment before being referred to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital for further medical care.
Following the incident, a former assembly member for the area, Abeiku Ansah, expressed concern about what he described as a growing wave of insecurity in the district, noting that similar incidents had occurred in recent times.
He called on the Ghana Police Service to intensify patrols along the Agona Swedru–Asafo road to help curb criminal activities in the area.
Meanwhile, the District Chief Executive for the Agona East District, Samuel Oscar Mensah, visited the community to assess the situation following the attack.
During the visit, he advised shop owners to adopt additional security measures, including the installation of CCTV cameras, to help monitor activities around their businesses.
Mr Mensah also assured residents that the District Security Council would adopt strategies aimed at strengthening security and preventing similar incidents in the area.
