Arsenal have confirmed the high-profile signing of Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP in a deal worth £63.5 million, finally addressing a long-standing need for a prolific centre-forward.
The Gunners will pay a guaranteed £55 million, with an additional £8.5 million in add-ons, to secure the 26-year-old on a five-year contract. The deal marks a major statement of intent as Mikel Arteta’s side looks to bolster their attacking firepower ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League campaign.
Arteta: “Gyokeres brings a clinical edge.”

Welcoming the striker to the Emirates, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta praised Gyokeres’ goal-scoring pedigree and physical attributes.
“Viktor has so many qualities,” Arteta said. “He’s a quick and powerful presence up front, with incredible goal-scoring numbers. His intelligent movement and clinical finishing make him a constant threat. We’re excited to start working with him.”
Sporting Director Berta: “Perfect fit for our vision”
Arsenal Sporting Director Andrea Berta also hailed the acquisition as a major coup.
“Viktor is an exceptional talent with the mentality and skillset of a top-level striker. His physicality, intelligence, and work ethic make him a perfect fit for our vision. We’re confident he’ll have a major impact on the pitch and in the dressing room.”
A Premier League return
The move marks Gyokeres’ return to English football, having previously featured for Brighton & Hove Albion and Coventry City. He joined Sporting from Coventry in 2023 for around £20 million and delivered an astonishing return of 97 goals in 102 appearances across two seasons.
Last season alone, he netted 54 goals in 52 matches, including a Champions League hat-trick against Manchester City, propelling Sporting to a league and cup double.
Coventry and Brighton benefit.
Coventry City are set to earn just over £4 million from a 10% sell-on clause, while Brighton will receive a smaller payment based on prior agreements.
Interestingly, Coventry had originally secured a 15% sell-on clause but sold 5% back to Sporting last summer for an undisclosed fee.
Arsenal finally lands a striker.
The move ends years of clamour for Arsenal to sign a prolific striker. The club had considered several targets, including RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, before sealing Gyokeres—who led all scorers in Europe’s top eight divisions last season with 39 league goals.
