Tension is mounting in the Anum Traditional Area following a formal petition by Nana Odame Osafo II, Gyasewahene of Anum, calling for urgent intervention by the Attorney-General to protect the integrity of an ongoing criminal trial and preserve peace in the community.
In the petition, the Gyasewahene raises serious concerns over public claims allegedly being made by some accused persons in a long-running criminal case currently before the Koforidua Circuit Court, suggesting that the matter may be discontinued through executive intervention.
According to the petition, the case pending for nearly two years has made significant progress. The court has already established a prima facie case, and proceedings have now entered the defence stage, with accused persons calling their witnesses.

The Gyasewa Division of the Anum Traditional Area, together with the Buruku Royal Family of Anum, Akroso, and Teacher Mante, are identified as the victims and principal witnesses in the matter.
The petition highlights growing anxiety within the Anum community over statements allegedly circulating publicly, attributed to some of the accused persons, including Nana Owusu Ntow and Samuel Kwasi Annor.
These claims allege that the accused persons have held meetings with the Attorney-General and the Deputy Attorney-General in Accra and that an understanding has supposedly been reached for the case to be discontinued at the next court sitting on January 29, 2026.
It is further alleged that a formal notice of discontinuation would be filed to abruptly end the trial.
“These assertions, whether true or otherwise, have generated serious anxiety, apprehension, and heightened tension within the community,” the petition states.
Nana Odame Osafo II warns that the mere circulation of such claims risks undermining public confidence in the justice system and could destabilise the already fragile peace in the Anum Traditional Area.
The petition stresses that any perception of behind-the-scenes influence or extrajudicial interference in an active criminal prosecution could have grave and unintended consequences for community stability.
The Gyasewahene emphasised that the traditional authorities approached the courts in good faith, driven by a desire for justice, peace, and respect for the rule of law.
“We have consistently demonstrated respect for judicial processes and remain committed to lawful means of dispute resolution,” the petition noted.
The chiefs maintain that the case has so far proceeded smoothly before a court of competent jurisdiction and insist that transparent justice remains the surest path to lasting peace in the area.
Nana Odame Osafo II has therefore appealed to the Attorney-General to ensure that any action taken by the state is strictly guided by law, due process, and the overriding interest of justice, to dispel rumours and prevent a breakdown of law and order.
The petition concludes by expressing confidence in the Attorney-General’s commitment to the rule of law and calls for urgent and decisive attention to the matter to reassure the public and safeguard peace in Anum.
