Alex Segbefia and Dr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo Appointed to Key Roles Under Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang

President John Dramani Mahama has approved the appointment of Alex Percival Segbefia as the chief of staff to Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, along with Dr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo as the vice president’s policy advisor for political affairs.

The appointments, announced on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, are part of the government’s broader Resetting Ghana Agenda, aimed at strengthening governance, ensuring policy coherence, and fostering development.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, acting spokesperson to the President, confirmed the news in an official statement, highlighting the administration’s focus on assembling a team of seasoned professionals to advance its objectives of economic transformation and improved social outcomes.

“President Mahama is committed to building a Ghana that delivers for its people. These appointments underscore our focus on experienced leadership and policy-driven governance,” Kwakye Ofosu stated.

The new leadership team under the Vice President includes accomplished individuals from diverse professional backgrounds. The appointees are as follows:

  • Alex Percival Segbefia – Chief of Staff to the Vice President
  • Mrs. Alberta Graham – Head of Administration
  • Professor Theresah Ennin – Presidential Staffer & Special Aide to the Vice President
  • Ms. Daniella Mavis Mathias—Secretary to the Vice President
  • Dr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo – Policy Adviser, Political
  • Prof. Sharif Mahmud Khalid – Policy Adviser, Economic
  • Dr. Hamza Zakaria – Policy Adviser, Economic
  • Ms. Mansa Amoa Awuah – Policy Adviser, Finance
  • Dr. Miriam Rahinatu Iddrisu – Policy Adviser, Social Sector
  • Maame Ama Pratt – Press Secretary

Leveraging Expertise for Efficient Governance

Alex Segbefia, a lawyer and experienced public servant, is well-known for his tenure as a Minister of Health and Deputy Chief of Staff during the Mahama administration. His wealth of knowledge in public administration is expected to enhance the Vice President’s office’s efficiency and coordination.

Similarly, Dr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, former National Chairman of the NDC and a seasoned politician with decades of experience in governance and policymaking, will play a pivotal role in shaping the administration’s political strategy and policy direction.
