Lawyers representing Kwabena Adu Boahene, former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), and his wife, Angela Adjei Boateng, have strongly criticised Attorney General Dr Dominic Ayine for what they call a prejudicial public trial.
Their accusations come after Dr Ayine’s March 24 press conference, where he alleged that Adu Boahene was involved in a $7 million fraud scandal linked to a cybersecurity contract.
In a statement issued by Zoe, Akyea & Co., the defence team argued that the Attorney General’s public comments violated the principles of a fair trial by portraying their clients as guilty before any formal court proceedings.

“The Attorney General’s role is to uphold the law, not to influence public opinion through a media trial. His comments amount to a premature conviction before our clients have had their day in court.”
They stressed that legal investigations must be independent of political influence, warning against state institutions being used for targeted prosecutions.
“The power to investigate must be exercised responsibly. No suspect should be judged in the media before being formally charged.”
The lawyers insisted that due process should be followed, adding that publicly announcing allegations before court proceedings creates an unfair atmosphere for their clients.
They also questioned the timing and intent behind Dr Ayine’s press conference, suggesting that it could be politically motivated.
