The minority leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has issued an unreserved apology to Defence Minister-designate Dr. Edward Omane Boamah following a misunderstanding over the scheduled time for his vetting.
The incident occurred on January 28, 2025, when Dr. Omane Boamah arrived later than expected for his vetting before Parliament’s Appointments Committee. The delay prompted Mr. Afenyo-Markin to criticize him for his perceived lateness.
However, it later emerged that the delay was caused by a miscommunication about the time scheduled for the vetting.
In a show of humility and decorum, Mr. Afenyo-Markin publicly apologized after the nominee had completed his vetting. Dr. Omane Boamah, in the morning, I made certain comments with regards to the lateness ; it seems there was a miscommunication about the time that was given to you. So I want to unreservedly say sorry to you,” he stated.
Dr. Omane Boamah graciously accepted the apology, demonstrating professionalism and understanding.
Additionally, the chairman of the Appointments Committee, Mr. Bernard Ahiafor, also added his voice to the apology, further easing any tensions from the earlier incident.
The vetting process concluded on a positive note, underscoring the importance of mutual respect and communication in fostering productive parliamentary engagements.
