Adu Boahene Case: Mahama Fully Informed, I Can’t Mislead Him – AG

The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine, has firmly dismissed suggestions that President John Mahama was misled in the ongoing high-profile corruption case involving the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu Boahene, and his accomplices.

Dr Ayine’s rebuttal follows claims that the president had been deceived into endorsing public statements and press briefings on the matter—especially after the arrest and detention of Mr Adu Boahene sparked public debate about the legitimacy of the charges and potential political motivations.

At a press conference held on Wednesday, April 30, the Attorney General stressed that President Mahama is fully briefed and aware of the facts surrounding the prosecution.

“Unlike some presidents in the past who were misled, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama is on top of his brief and cannot be misled. Indeed, if any appointee would mislead the President, it would not be his Attorney General,” Dr Ayine declared.

He emphasised that all information relayed to the President regarding the case is supported by solid documentary evidence.

“Everything I have told the president, I have evidence to prove it. The docket is replete with documentary evidence of the wrongdoing that has been investigated,” he added.

The Attorney General also addressed concerns about the delay in filing formal charges, clarifying that it was not politically motivated. Instead, he said investigators had uncovered an additional criminal scheme tied to Adu Boahene, this time involving the Ghana Water Company Limited.

“This criminal enterprise involved the purported provision of secured internet services to Ghana Water Company Limited by the erstwhile Bureau of National Communications, now the National Signals Bureau,” Dr Ayine revealed.

He reiterated that the prosecution is guided strictly by evidence, not partisanship, and assured the public that the case is being handled with the seriousness it deserves.

The case, which involves alleged misappropriation of GH₵49.1 million in state funds and a controversial $7 million cyber defence contract, has captured national attention and intensified scrutiny on Ghana’s security and intelligence sectors.
