Ablekuma West MP Visits Family of 8-Year-Old Girl Killed in Dansoman Market Fire

The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, Reverend Kweku Addo, has visited the mother of the 8-year-old girl who died in Wednesday’s tragic dawn fire at the Dansoman Market.

The sombre visit took place just hours after the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) brought the blaze under control, following an intense overnight operation that destroyed several stalls and left traders devastated.

Rev. Kweku Addo extended heartfelt condolences to the grieving mother and family, describing the incident as “a heartbreaking loss no parent should ever endure.” He assured the family that he is liaising with the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) and relevant agencies to provide the necessary support and ensure the family receives all available assistance.

According to the GNFS, the fire was reported at exactly 00:02 hrs, with the first firefighting team from the Dansoman Fire Station arriving on the scene within two minutes. Firefighters encountered the blaze already at an advanced stage and spreading rapidly across multiple sections of the market.

Eight fire engines were dispatched from the Industrial Area, Ministries, National Headquarters, Madina, Weija, Anyaa, and Accra City fire stations. Two private water tankers from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly also supported the operation.

The inferno was confined at 01:51 hrs, brought under control at 03:03 hrs, and fully extinguished by 05:21 hrs after thorough overhauling to eliminate hidden fire pockets.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation as fire officers work to uncover what triggered the devastating incident.
