A tragic road accident on the Accra–Kumasi Highway at Enyiresi has claimed the lives of two people and left five others injured following a head-on collision between a fuel tanker and a Sprinter bus.
The crash involved a MAN Diesel tanker with registration number GN 4550-19 and a Sprinter bus numbered AW 732-13, which was transporting eight passengers at the time of the incident.
According to preliminary information, the tanker reportedly lost control after one of its tyres detached while in motion. The out-of-control vehicle veered into the opposite lane and crashed head-on into the oncoming Sprinter bus, resulting in a devastating impact.

The collision left the Sprinter bus completely mangled and trapped beneath the tanker, while the tanker sustained significant damage to its front axle. Eyewitnesses described the scene as horrific, with debris scattered across the busy highway and traffic brought to a standstill.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) at Anyinam received a distress call at 8:38 p.m. and swiftly dispatched a rescue team, arriving at the scene within seven minutes. Firefighters worked under intense conditions to rescue victims trapped in the wreckage.
During the rescue operation, one female victim was retrieved from the wreckage and pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigations. Another critically injured victim later died while receiving treatment at the Enyiresi Government Hospital, bringing the death toll to two.

Five other victims sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to medical facilities for treatment. Some were treated at the Enyiresi Government Hospital and Helpline Hospital in Anyinam, while one victim was referred to St Joseph Hospital in Koforidua for specialised care.
The tanker driver and his mate escaped unhurt and are currently assisting the police with investigations into the cause of the accident.
Authorities have since secured the scene and begun investigations, as concerns continue to mount over frequent accidents along the Accra–Kumasi Highway, often linked to mechanical failures, speeding, and poor vehicle maintenance.

The Ghana Police Service has renewed calls on drivers, particularly operators of heavy-duty vehicles, to ensure regular vehicle inspections and strict adherence to road safety regulations to prevent further loss of lives.
