The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has described the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, as the modern-day embodiment of the biblical King Solomon, praising his wisdom, patience, and exceptional role in fostering peace and national cohesion.
The IGP made the remark on Tuesday, January 6, during a historic visit by the Asantehene to the Police Headquarters in Accra. The visit marked a rare and symbolic engagement between the traditional authority and the leadership of the Ghana Police Service, underscoring the critical role of traditional institutions in maintaining peace and security.
According to Mr Yohuno, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s calm disposition, moral authority, and deep sense of fairness have been instrumental in resolving some of Ghana’s most protracted and sensitive conflicts.

He noted that the Asantehene’s approach to conflict resolution, anchored in dialogue, patience, and respect for all parties, has repeatedly brought stability to areas previously plagued by tension and violence.
The IGP specifically cited Otumfuo’s pivotal mediation role in the Dagbon chieftaincy dispute, describing it as a landmark intervention that restored peace after decades of division. He also referenced the Asantehene’s interventions in Yendi and his ongoing efforts to resolve the long-standing Bawku conflict, noting that these initiatives have significantly complemented the work of the police and other security agencies.
Mr Yohuno explained that Otumfuo’s mediation efforts have not only reduced violence but have also strengthened public trust in state security institutions by creating an enabling environment for law enforcement operations.
“Your exceptional mediation skills, which have restored peace in numerous conflicts across our nation, compel me to describe you as the King Solomon of our time,” the IGP stated, drawing applause from senior police officers and dignitaries present at the event.
He further acknowledged that the police service benefits immensely from the Asantehene’s leadership, as peaceful communities allow officers to focus on proactive policing rather than conflict containment.
The visit, observers say, highlights the enduring relevance of traditional leadership in Ghana’s democratic governance system, particularly in conflict prevention and resolution. It also reaffirmed the strong partnership between the Ghana Police Service and traditional authorities in safeguarding peace, unity, and national stability.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has long been recognised locally and internationally for his statesmanship and mediation expertise, with many viewing his interventions as vital to Ghana’s reputation as a stable and peaceful nation in the sub-region.
