We’ll conduct a proper Sim Card re-registration – Sam George

Minister-Designate for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Sam Nartey George, has announced plans for a new SIM card registration process, vowing to eliminate the long queues and inefficiencies that plagued the previous exercise.

During his vetting before Parliament’s Appointments Committee, George criticised the 2022 SIM re-registration process, which forced Ghanaians to physically visit network provider offices to link their SIM cards to their Ghana Cards, leading to service disruptions for those who failed to comply.

“We will do a proper SIM re-registration exercise again, but this time, nobody is going to queue. Because common sense will prevail, expertise will prevail, and logic will work,” George stated.

Under his leadership, the new registration will leverage technology, cross-referencing MNO data with the National Identification Authority (NIA) database to eliminate unnecessary manual processes. Only individuals with data discrepancies will be required to visit telecom offices.

He emphasised that this system would save productive hours, prevent economic losses, and benefit mobile network operators (MNOs) by ensuring accurate subscriber identification.
