VIDEO: “I Don’t Give Attention to Idiots” — Rashid Tanko-Computer Hits Back at Fake PhD Allegations

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), Dr Rashid Tanko-Computer, has come out swinging in response to growing controversy over his academic credentials, declaring, “I don’t give attention to idiots.”

His reaction follows a directive from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), which has asked him to stop using the title “Doctor” due to concerns that his PhD from Kingsnow University—allegedly awarded in 2016—is unearned.

In a firm rebuttal during an interview with Puretvonline, the GIFEC CEO defended the authenticity of his doctorate and dismissed critics as political actors attempting to discredit his reputation after the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) returned to power.

“My certificate was properly earned. I went through every verification process during my time in public service. So I don’t give attention to idiots,” he stated.

A source at GIFEC confirmed that GTEC’s letter, dated June 3, 2025, instructed the CEO to remove the “Dr” title from all official documents, websites, institutional profiles, and public platforms. He is also required to provide proof of compliance.

But Tanko-Computer insists that the attacks are not based on merit. He revealed that between 2017 and 2025, while serving as Deputy Director of the Youth Employment Authority (YEA), he underwent at least three separate audits, all of which cleared him.

“I served under both NDC and NPP governments during my time at YEA. “If my certificate was fake, I would have been exposed long ago,” he argued.

Appointed GIFEC CEO by President John Mahama after the NDC’s 2025 electoral victory, Rashid Tanko-Computer suggested that his critics, particularly from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), are acting out of frustration over their electoral defeat.

Meanwhile, the GTEC has reiterated its campaign against the misuse of academic titles in public service. In a May 30 notice, the commission warned individuals to desist from presenting themselves as doctors or professors without verifiable credentials.

In a related incident, Dr Anne Sansa Daly was recently dismissed from the NHIA Board after it was confirmed that her academic certificate was fake—adding to the pressure on public servants to verify their academic standing.
