Ghana’s Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, is in stable condition and currently taking a short period of rest in the United Kingdom; following medical advice, government officials have disclosed.
The update comes amid growing public interest and speculation about the vice president’s health. Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, addressed the matter during an appearance on Channel One TV on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.
“She is currently in good health and taking a short rest as advised by her doctors,” he said. “In short order, she should be back to her duties. She is in the United Kingdom as I speak.”

Kwakye Ofosu’s remarks follow earlier clarifications made by Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who also sought to reassure the public during a meeting with Ghanaians in Lagos, Nigeria, on Sunday, April 6.
“There are some fears about the state of our mother, the first female Vice President of the Republic of Ghana,” Ablakwa said. “I want to assure you that she is doing very, very well. Your prayers worked—from Ghanaians at home and abroad.”
“I have personally heard from her, so I know exactly what I’m talking about,” he added.
Vice President Opoku-Agyemang reportedly took ill shortly after performing official duties on Friday, March 28.
She received initial medical attention at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) before traveling abroad for further evaluation and recovery.
In the days that followed, social media became flooded with unverified claims and rumors about her condition. Government officials have since described such reports as false, politically motivated, and harmful.
“Please ignore all of that vicious and unGhanaian propaganda,” Ablakwa urged. “Our mother is doing very, very well. She will return soon to continue serving Ghana, making all of us proud—especially inspiring our young girls to know that they too can rise to the highest levels of leadership.”
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s return to active duty is expected in the coming days, as officials continue to emphasize the importance of unity and the need to rely on credible sources of information.
