Two Dead, Dozens Injured as School Bus Overturns on Aseseeso Hill

A tragic bus accident at Aseseeso, located between Adukrom and Somanya in the Eastern Region, has claimed the lives of two people and left several others injured.

The victims, from Ben Kunadu SDA Basic School in the Asante Akyem Municipality of the Ashanti Region, were travelling for an excursion to Akosombo when the bus, registered as GV 83-22 and belonging to Collins Senior High School in Asante Agogo, lost control while descending the Aseseeso hill. The vehicle reportedly somersaulted multiple times before landing on its side.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Awatey, who happened to be passing through the area, quickly joined rescue efforts and facilitated the transportation of injured students to the Yilo Krobo Municipal Hospital in Somanya.

An official at the Yilo Krobo Municipal Hospital confirmed that two critically injured patients have been transferred to the Eastern Regional Hospital for specialised care, while 31 to 35 students are in stable condition and receiving treatment.

Sadly, a 65-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl were confirmed dead on arrival.

The Atua Government Hospital is also providing medical care to some of the injured individuals.

Investigations are expected to determine the cause of the crash, which has left the community in shock and mourning.
