The re-run election was marked by pockets of chaos at several polling stations, raising concerns about electoral security and the safety of voters and officials. Videos and eyewitness accounts shared on social media highlighted scenes of confrontation, alleged ballot interference, and physical altercations.
The police statement reaffirmed the Ghana Police Service’s commitment to enforcing law and order, especially during elections, and promised that all individuals found culpable in election-related violence would be prosecuted.
“We urge the public to continue cooperating with the police and to share credible information,” the statement read. It further encouraged citizens to report relevant details via the emergency numbers 18555 or 191.
The Ghana Police Service emphasised that safeguarding the integrity of the country’s democratic processes remains a top priority and assured the public that further arrests could follow as investigations progress.
