Two Arrested Over Suspected Ritual Killing in Akatsi North

The police in Korve, Akatsi North District of the Volta Region, have arrested two individuals, Dzagey William and Agbemenyo Yao, in connection with the suspected ritual murder of Agbodzi Konor.

Agbodzi Konor was reported missing on Friday, January 10, 2025, after leaving home to cut firewood for charcoal. A three-day search by community members ended in tragedy when his mutilated body was discovered.

According to the victim’s girlfriend, the suspects ambushed Agbodzi while he was having lunch during his work. Dzagey William, her ex-husband, allegedly shot Agbodzi in the face, assisted by Agbemenyo Yao.

She revealed that the assailants allowed her to leave after she promised to return to Dzagey and remain silent about the incident.

However, she fled to Accra but later returned to assist the police in their investigation, leading to the arrests.

It remains unclear what motivated the murder. Some speculate that it stemmed from political rivalry, as Dzagey had previously threatened Agbodzi, who was his political opponent and also dating his ex-wife. Others suspect ritual killing, given the gruesome nature of the crime.

Police investigations revealed that vital organs, including the victim’s head, penis, testicles, heart, and kidney, had been removed and hidden. The body parts were later retrieved and deposited at the St. Anthony’s Hospital mortuary in Dzodze.

Godfred Kudalor, Akatsi North New Patriotic Party Chairman, confirmed prior threats against the victim during the 2024 elections. “We thought it was just one of those election issues. But now, he’s been killed, and his body parts have been removed. It’s shocking,” he said.

The victim’s family has appealed to the police to expedite investigations and release the body for burial.

The police, working closely with community leaders, continue their investigation to uncover the full extent of the crime and bring the culprits to justice.
