Three 18-Year-Ilds Jailed for 10 Years Each After Brutal Kumasi Robbery

Three 18-year-old armed robbers have been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to a violent robbery incident that occurred at Boubai in the Asokore Mampong Municipality on July 1, 2025.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command confirmed in a statement on Wednesday, July 9, that the convicts—Mamudu Issah, Samuel Takyi, and Alhassan Abubakari—were arrested on the day of the robbery following swift action by community volunteers.

The trio, armed with machetes and riding unregistered motorbikes, launched attacks on unsuspecting residents between 7:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., making away with mobile phones, bags, and cash.

Their arrest was made possible through the intervention of residents in the Aboabo area, who apprehended the suspects and recovered 10 stolen mobile phones and three bags, which were handed over to the police.

The suspects were arraigned before the Atasemanso Circuit Court on Tuesday, July 8. All three pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery and seven counts of robbery. Mamudu Issah also admitted to an additional charge of causing harm.

Issah received a 10-year sentence for each robbery count and an extra three years for causing harm, all to run concurrently. Takyi and Abubakari were each given 10-year concurrent sentences for their roles in the robbery.

They have since been moved to the Kumasi Central Prisons to begin serving their jail terms.

The police commended the community for their vigilance and support and urged the public to remain alert and report suspicious activities to law enforcement authorities.

“Public cooperation remains essential in tackling crime and ensuring the safety of our communities,” the police stated.
