‘The President is Emotionally Down’ – Haruna Iddrisu on Death of Omane Boamah, Murtala Muhammed & Others
Minister for Education Haruna Iddrisu has revealed that President John Dramani Mahama is deeply shaken by the military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight people, including two Cabinet Ministers, on Wednesday morning, August 6, 2025.
Speaking to JoyNews at the Jubilee House after a press conference, Mr Iddrisu described the mood at the highest level of government as sombre, calling the loss “a tragic departure of our colleagues in the service of our country.”
“They were on their way to Obuasi to launch the Cooperative Mining Initiative. The President is down emotionally. We pray that God will give him and the Ghanaian people the fortitude to accept this loss,” he said.

In a solemn national address, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah confirmed the tragedy and announced that all national flags will fly at half-mast until further notice in honour of the deceased.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, though early reports suggest bad weather may have played a role.
