“Stop the Talk, Start the Action”—Ntim Fordjour Blasts Mahama Over Education Forum

Former Deputy Minister of Education, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has launched a scathing attack on the Mahama administration, slamming the upcoming National Education Forum as a pointless and wasteful endeavour.

The forum, set to commence on Tuesday, February 18, will move across regions before concluding with a two-day validation conference in Accra from February 27.

In a fiery interview on Channel One Newsroom on Monday, February 17, Fordjour questioned why President Mahama needs an education forum when his campaign manifesto should already define his vision.

“This is nothing but a classic case of indecision and lack of leadership. The president campaigned on an education agenda. Now, instead of acting on it, he wants to waste time and resources on endless meetings,” Fordjour fumed.

He insisted that Ghanaians expect immediate action, particularly on:

  • Expanding Free SHS to private schools.
  • Paying first-year fees for tertiary students in public institutions.
  • Scrapping the double-track system.

“If these were real commitments, they should have been in the budget by now. This forum is just another bureaucratic delay tactic,” he lashed out.

Fordjour further argued that a comprehensive Education Strategic Plan (ESP) already exists, covering 2018 to 2030, making the forum redundant.

“We don’t need a rehashed talk shop. We already have a plan developed by experts, educationists, civil society groups, and international partners. The only thing left is implementation,” he stated.

Fordjour described the education forum as a misplaced priority, accusing the government of diverting attention from real policy failures.

“This is not leadership. This is wastefulness disguised as consultation. Ghanaians need real reforms, not empty conferences,” he charged.

As debate rages over the National Education Forum, critics like Fordjour are calling for direct action rather than drawn-out discussions. Whether the government will heed the calls or push forward with its planned forum remains to be seen.
