Special Prosecutor Took $40,000 to Drop Case Against Adu Boahen- Martin Kpebu

Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has levelled explosive allegations against the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, accusing him of receiving US$40,000 from former Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Charles Adu Boahen, in exchange for dropping corruption charges against him.

Kpebu made the claim during an interview with Selorm Adonoo on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue on Saturday, December 6, asserting that he possesses evidence to back his accusations.

“I want to show Ghanaians that I’m not scared. When Kissi Agyebeng freed Adu Boahen, he wrote to him to bring him $40,000 cash after telling Ghanaians he had committed no crime within his jurisdiction. What is your mandate to collect $40,000?” he alleged.

In a separate but related accusation, Kpebu claimed that Dr Kingsley Agyemang, former Registrar of the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat and now Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, orchestrated a smear campaign against his predecessor, Samuel Atta Akyea, in a bid to secure the parliamentary seat.

According to him, Dr Agyemang was at the time facing a corruption complaint at the Office of the Special Prosecutor but avoided arrest due to interference from Kissi Agyebeng.

“A corruption case against Kingsley Agyemang was reported to the OSP, and he was due for arrest to write his statement. But Kissi Agyebeng blocked the arrest and said Kingsley was his friend and arresting him would affect his chances in the primaries,” Kpebu claimed.

He further alleged that individuals enlisted for the alleged smear campaign were promised two scholarship slots each, adding that one of the participants had already confessed to the arrangement.

Kpebu also revealed his intention to petition President John Dramani Mahama in the coming week to request the removal of the Special Prosecutor from office.

His comments come days after he was detained at the OSP headquarters on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, following a confrontation with security at the entrance while assisting with investigations into his earlier corruption allegations against the Special Prosecutor.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor has not yet issued a response to the latest allegations from the private legal practitioner.
