The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has granted approval, in principle, for two Members of Parliament (MPs) — Mustapha Yussif, MP for Yagaba Kubori, and Kwame Asare Obeng (A Plus), MP for Gomoa Central — to attend an official meeting with security officials.
This decision follows a formal request from security authorities seeking to engage with the two lawmakers over undisclosed matters.
In response, the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, acting on behalf of the Speaker, emphasised the need to uphold the constitutional privileges of MPs as outlined in Articles 117 and 118 of the 1992 Constitution. These articles protect MPs from arrest or questioning while performing parliamentary duties, ensuring due process is followed.

The Clerk further noted that the request was considered in light of Parliament’s existing protocols with security agencies and the public interest in the matter.
As a result, the Speaker has directed the two MPs to make themselves available for an initial meeting with security officials on Monday, April 7, 2025, at 10:00 AM. The meeting will take place at the Sir Emmanuel Charles Quist Conference Room, within the Office of the Speaker in Parliament House.
To ensure transparency and fairness, the Speaker has also instructed that the MPs be accompanied by their legal representatives. This measure is aimed at safeguarding their legal rights throughout the process.
Additionally, security officials have been advised to liaise with Parliament’s Legal Services Office upon their arrival to coordinate the proceedings smoothly.
While the specific nature of the security concerns remains unclear, this development highlights Parliament’s commitment to upholding the rule of law while protecting the rights and privileges of its members.
The outcome of the scheduled meeting could provide further clarity on the issues involving the MPs and any potential actions moving forward.
