Sammy Gyamfi Appointed Acting MD of PMMC 

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as the Acting Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC).

This appointment, effective January 16, 2025, places Mr. Gyamfi at the forefront of efforts to establish the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), a flagship initiative outlined in the NDC’s 2024 manifesto.

Announcing the appointment, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the acting spokesperson to the president, underscored the government’s commitment to economic revitalisation and sustainable development. He emphasised that the GoldBod initiative is a critical component of the Mahama administration’s strategy to harness the full potential of Ghana’s gold resources.

The Ghana Gold Board will be responsible for the sustainable management and marketing of the country’s gold resources to ensure they benefit the Ghanaian populace. Its key mandates include formalising the small-scale gold mining sector and providing mining support services to enhance the industry’s efficiency and profitability.

Mr. Gyamfi’s academic and professional credentials make him well-suited for this pivotal role. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science and a Bachelor of Law degree from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He is also a barrister at law, having earned his certificate from the Ghana School of Law.

In addition, he holds a Master of Arts degree in Economic Policy Management from the University of Ghana and executive certificates in Emerging Leaders and Strategic Leadership programs from the Harvard Kennedy School.

Mr. Gyamfi has extensive experience in the mining and policy sectors. He previously worked with Exton Cubic Group Limited, a reputable mining company in Ghana, where he gained firsthand experience in the industry. His role as National Communications Officer of the NDC has also demonstrated his strategic leadership and policy advocacy skills.

The establishment of the Ghana Gold Board is one of the top priorities of the Mahama administration. It aims to create a structured and transparent framework for managing the country’s gold resources, ensuring fair trade, sustainable mining practices, and economic benefits for all Ghanaians.

With Mr. Gyamfi at the helm, the government is confident in the successful implementation of the GoldBod initiative. His expertise and leadership are expected to drive transformative change within Ghana’s mining sector and contribute significantly to the nation’s economic recovery.

The Mahama administration has reiterated its commitment to creating a sustainable and inclusive economy, with the Ghana Gold Board as a key pillar of this agenda.
