Sammi Awuku Rolls Out Initiatives to Support Farmers and Traders

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, has reaffirmed his commitment to improving the livelihoods of his constituents, despite the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) loss in the 2024 general elections.

Speaking at the launch of a new monthly trade initiative, Mr. Awuku announced that he would cover part of the interest on soft loans for farmers and market women while also providing free transportation to help them sell their produce.

As part of the initiative, the MP is partnering with rural banks to provide soft loans to small-scale traders and farmers, helping them expand their businesses.

To further ease their financial burden, he pledged to personally cover 25 percent of the 30 percent interest on the loans.

Additionally, the MP has introduced a free transport service, allowing farmers to bring their goods from rural areas to the Ofie Market Square at the Amanokrom Durbar Grounds, boosting trade and market access.

Beyond supporting farmers, Mr. Awuku is working on establishing a Teacher’s and Nurse’s Fund by mid-year. The initiative, developed in collaboration with education and health authorities, will provide seed capital to encourage teachers and nurses to accept postings to rural communities in Akuapem North.

This move is expected to improve access to quality education and healthcare in underserved areas.

Mr. Awuku assured constituents that he will use the MP’s Common Fund judiciously, ensuring that all resources meant for development are utilised effectively.

“I will not take a cedi from what is meant for the people. My goal is to help lift them from the shackles of poverty into prosperity,” he reiterated.

His initiatives have been widely praised by local stakeholders, who see them as a step toward sustainable economic growth and community development in Akuapem North.
