Rodaline Ayarna Backs Gov’t on Post-Election Job Terminations
Public Interest Advocate Rodaline Imoru Ayarna has justified the government’s decision to revoke the appointments of individuals hired after the December 7 elections, arguing that the move is necessary given Ghana’s economic reality and governance history.
Speaking on Newsfile on Saturday, February 22, 2025, Mrs. Ayarna questioned the timing of the appointments, suggesting that the previous administration had ample time to address unemployment but instead rushed to fill positions just before leaving office.
“As a Ghanaian, I understand that those affected are fellow citizens. However, looking at the situation and historical patterns of government transitions, I don’t see this as unjustifiable. Why would a government that had eight years to act suddenly flood agencies with new hires at the last minute?” she asked.

She also pointed out alleged irregularities in the recruitment process, citing government claims that some individuals were employed without proper documentation, while others had backdated contracts.
“From what I heard from the government spokesperson, some of these hires didn’t even submit application letters, some didn’t follow the right procedures, and others had backdated employment records. These are all acts of criminality, and you cannot defend that,” she stated.
Mrs. Ayarna acknowledged the frustration of the affected workers but advised them to seek employment through the proper channels rather than clinging to potentially illegitimate appointments.
Her remarks come amid a heated debate over the dismissals, with critics arguing that the terminations are politically motivated.
However, the government maintains that the decision is part of broader efforts to ensure transparency and fiscal discipline in public sector employment.
