Rita Talata Asobayire Refutes False Attributions in Alleged Oquaye Report Leak
Rita Talata Asobayire, the 2nd National Vice Chairperson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has strongly refuted claims circulating on social media and news platforms alleging that she criticised the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, in the Oquaye Committee Report.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Madam Asobayire categorically denied ever making the statements attributed to her, which claim she described the General Secretary as “an armchair leader – uninspiring and seemingly unable to keep appointees accountable.” The alleged quotation, which gained traction after being published by Opera News under the headline “Rift in NPP Leadership: Oquaye Report Exposes Cracks as Vice Chairperson Slams General Secretary”, also stated that she blamed Kodua’s “inaction” for the party’s recent electoral performance.
“These claims are completely fabricated and politically mischievous,” Madam Asobayire declared. “I have NOT interacted with the Oquaye Committee, nor have I made any appearance before it. In fact, I was not in the country at the time the committee engaged the national executives—a fact which was officially communicated to the committee.”

She further emphasised that the party has not released any part of the Oquaye Committee’s report, adding that the quotes being circulated—mainly by known National Democratic Congress (NDC) activists—are false and without merit.
Madam Asobayire took issue with media outlets, particularly Opera News, for publishing and amplifying the fabricated claims. “I demand an immediate retraction and an unqualified apology from the publishers,” she said, warning that legal action would follow if her demands are not met.
“I have instructed my lawyers to proceed to court to vindicate my rights should this reprehensible conduct continue,” she added.
For clarity, the NPP vice chairperson affirmed her professional relationship with the general secretary, praising his leadership. “The General Secretary and I have had an excellent working relationship. His leadership is marked by firmness and political astuteness. It is therefore inconceivable that I would pass such an uncomplimentary verdict on him.”
Her statement comes at a time when the NPP leadership is working to maintain unity ahead of the 2028 general elections. The party has not officially commented on the contents of the Oquaye Committee’s report, which was commissioned to review the party’s performance in the 2024 elections.
