Rashid Pelpuo: 24-Hour Economy Policy to Boost Jobs and Productivity

Labour, Jobs, and Employment Minister-designate, Rashid Pelpuo, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to engaging Ghanaian workers effectively through the implementation of the 24-hour economy policy, aimed at maximising productivity and creating job opportunities across various sectors.

During his vetting before the Appointments Committee on January 30, Pelpuo explained that the 24-hour economy is a key initiative of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which was overwhelmingly endorsed by Ghanaians in the last election.

He described it as a transformative measure to ensure a structured and efficient labour system in the country.

“It is a policy initiative by the present NDC government, proposed to the people of Ghana and accepted by them because they overwhelmingly approved it through their votes. It is a commitment to ensure that we engage the Ghanaian worker effectively within 24 hours,” Pelpuo said.

Under the new policy, the 24-hour work cycle will be divided into three distinct eight-hour shifts, allowing businesses to operate around the clock.

This will, in turn, optimise labour output, foster job creation, and contribute to overall economic growth. Pelpuo emphasised that the policy aligns with the government’s goal to foster a productive workforce and enhance Ghana’s economic competitiveness.
