Radio Presenter, Two Others Shot Dead in Binduri

A tragic shooting incident in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region has left five people shot, including a popular radio presenter, after unidentified gunmen stormed a residential compound on Sunday, October 26, 2025.

According to local reports, the armed men opened fire on the occupants of the house without warning, killing three people — including a five-year-old child — on the spot. Two others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

One of the injured, identified as George Bukari, the manager of Maxx Empire Radio and TV in Binduri, is said to be receiving intensive medical care following the attack.

Community members suspect the incident is connected to the protracted Bawku conflict, which has destabilised parts of the Upper East Region since November 2021. The recurring violence has led to dozens of deaths and heightened tensions among residents of Bawku and surrounding districts.

Meanwhile, in a separate but related development, military personnel reportedly shot and killed a mentally challenged man at Daduri, a suburb of Bawku, on the same day. Residents have expressed outrage, calling for an independent probe into the killing and a swift de-escalation of hostilities in the area.

Security forces are yet to issue an official statement regarding the Binduri shooting or the alleged military incident. However, tensions remain high as authorities intensify patrols to prevent reprisals and further bloodshed.

The Bawku conflict, rooted in long-standing chieftaincy and ethnic disputes, has periodically flared up despite repeated government interventions. Recent months have seen a resurgence of attacks, prompting renewed calls from civil society groups and local leaders for dialogue and lasting peace in the region.
