Professor Ernest Kofi Davis Appointed New Director-General of GES

Professor Ernest Kofi Davis, the Provost of the College of Education Studies at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), has been appointed as the new Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES).

The announcement was made through a Facebook post by the GES on Monday, January 27, 2025.

With a strong academic background, Professor Davis brings a wealth of knowledge and professional experience to his new role.

He holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from Monash University in Australia and has held several leadership roles within the education sector.

He has been recognised as a Carnegie African Diaspora Fellow, a prestigious title awarded to scholars who have made significant contributions to education and research in Africa. Additionally, he is an active member of the Ghana Mathematics Association, an organisation dedicated to advancing mathematics education in the country.

Professor Davis has also served as the vice president of the Ghana Education Research Association (GERA-Ghana), which promotes the enhancement of education policies and practices through research.

He succeeds Dr. Eric Nkansah, who held the position of Director-General since October 2022 and worked on improving teacher welfare, curriculum development, and infrastructure in the sector.

As the new Director-General, Professor Davis is expected to build on Dr. Nkansah’s work while introducing his own strategies to strengthen and improve Ghana’s educational system.
