Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his heartfelt condolences to President John Dramani Mahama, the government, and the people of Ghana following the August 6 military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and six others.
In an official statement delivered by his Special Adviser on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu expressed profound sympathy, affirming that the thoughts and prayers of the Nigerian government and people are with Ghana during this period of national grief.
The Nigerian leader emphasised that the victims perished in the line of patriotic duty and urged Ghanaians — especially the bereaved families — to find solace in honouring their sacrifice. He prayed for eternal peace for the departed and strength for those left behind.

The tragic incident involved a Ghana Armed Forces Z‑9 helicopter carrying three crew members and five passengers, all of whom died after the aircraft went off radar shortly after taking off from Accra en route to Obuasi for a government assignment.
In the wake of the disaster, President Mahama ordered national flags to be flown at half‑mast and suspended official engagements as the country mourned its loss.
President Tinubu’s message further reiterated Nigeria’s solidarity with Ghana, pledging support and sharing in the nation’s pain during this devastating moment.
