President Mahama Apologises to Christian Council, Catholic Bishops Over Education Forum Invitation Delay

President John Dramani Mahama has publicly apologised to the Christian Council of Ghana and the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference for the delayed invitation to participate in the ongoing National Education Forum in Ho, Volta Region.

His apology comes after the two religious bodies expressed disappointment in a statement over their initial exclusion from the crucial dialogue on Ghana’s education reforms.

Speaking at the launch of the forum, President Mahama acknowledged the oversight and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusivity in national discussions on education.

“Let me express my sincerest apologies on behalf of the planning committee of the forum to our stakeholders in faith-based organisations for the unpardonable omission committed in your delayed invitation to this forum,” he stated.

He further assured them that the mistake had been “speedily remedied” but emphasised that they still deserved an “unqualified apology for this oversight.”

“And since you are the purveyors of God’s mercy on Earth, I’m sure you have forgiven us. We recognise your importance as key stakeholders, especially as many of you own and run schools across the country. This forum is crucial in ensuring we move forward together in shaping our education sector,” he added.

The National Education Forum has brought together education experts, policymakers, civil society organisations, and religious leaders to deliberate on strategies for improving Ghana’s education system.
