President-elect John Dramani Mahama Nominates Bagbin for Speaker of 9th Parliament

President-elect John Dramani Mahama has formally urged the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Parliament to nominate the current Speaker, Alban Bagbin, for the Speaker role in the 9th Parliament.

In a press release issued by Mr. Mahama’s office and signed by his special aide, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the president-elect emphasised the importance of continuity and experience in the leadership of Parliament.

Mr. Mahama noted that following consultations with the national executive and parliamentary leadership of the NDC, he is confident that Mr. Bagbin is the best candidate to continue leading the legislative body.

“Alban Bagbin has demonstrated remarkable leadership throughout his tenure as Speaker, and his experience will be invaluable in the 9th Parliament,” said Mr. Mahama. “His deep knowledge of parliamentary procedures and his commitment to the democratic process make him the ideal choice to ensure that the new Parliament operates effectively.”

The dissolution of the 8th Parliament is set to occur on Monday, January 6, 2025, in preparation for the election of a new Speaker and deputies for the 9th Parliament.
