Poll: 64% of Ghanaians Dissatisfied with Afenyo Markin’s Performance in Ministerial Vetting

A new Global InfoAnalytics poll has revealed that 64% of Ghanaians are dissatisfied with the performance of Alexander Afenyo Markin, the Minority Leader and Ranking Member on the Appointments Committee of Parliament, in the ongoing ministerial vetting process.

The survey, conducted between January 30 and February 1, 2025, sampled 952 respondents through online and field interviews.

According to the poll:

  • 44% of respondents were “not satisfied at all” with Afenyo Markin’s performance.
  • 20% expressed general dissatisfaction.
  • Only 8% reported being “extremely satisfied” with his role in the vetting process.

These findings suggest growing public concern over the effectiveness and fairness of the Appointments Committee’s work.

The poll also found that 77% of Ghanaians believe the vetting process is being used for political point-scoring rather than an objective assessment of nominees’ competence and suitability for office.

Afenyo Markin’s performance has come under scrutiny amid broader concerns about parliamentary proceedings, including the Speaker’s decision to suspend four MPs, a move that has divided public opinion.

Despite dissatisfaction with Afenyo Markin, the poll also found that 63% of Ghanaians are generally satisfied with the work of the Appointments Committee as a whole.

The findings highlight public frustration with partisanship in governance while also signalling confidence in the overall vetting process despite individual criticisms.
