Police Seize 12 Sacks, 80 Parcels Of Suspected Indian Hemp On Tema-Ada Road

The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested a truck driver after officers intercepted a large consignment of suspected Indian hemp during an operation on the Tema-Ada road.

The suspect, identified by police as Bismark Kpormeno, was arrested on May 31, 2026, by officers of the Tema Highway Patrol Unit.

A statement issued by the command on June 2, 2026, said the suspect was driving a Hyundai Mighty II container truck when he allegedly failed to stop after police officers signalled him to do so.

According to the statement, the driver attempted to flee, leading to a chase that ended at Bondase, where he was arrested.

Police said a search of the vehicle uncovered 12 sacks and 80 parcels of compressed plant material concealed in the container and wrapped with adhesive tape.

The statement described the substance as suspected narcotic drugs and referred to it as suspected Indian hemp. The substance is yet to undergo independent verification.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspected consignment was loaded at Kpeve in the Volta Region and was being transported to Ada.

Mr Kpormeno remains in police custody assisting with investigations, while the vehicle and the recovered exhibits have been impounded.

The command appealed to the public to support efforts to combat crime by providing timely and credible information on suspicious activities.

The statement was signed by ASP Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs at the Tema Regional Police Headquarters.
