The driver of the truck, along with three passengers onboard, was immediately arrested and taken into police custody. The identities of the suspects have not yet been disclosed, pending further investigations.

The police are currently working to establish the origin and intended destination of the cables. The incident has raised concerns about the security of sensitive cargo at Tema Port and the involvement of criminal syndicates in the theft of government property.

A senior police officer confirmed that the suspects are assisting authorities in unravelling the circumstances surrounding the transportation of the cables. “We are treating this matter with urgency. The suspects will face the full rigours of the law if found guilty,” the officer stated.

The interception comes amidst ongoing investigations into the disappearance of ECG containers from Tema Port, an incident that has stirred public outrage and heightened scrutiny over port security. The missing cargo reportedly contains high-value electrical equipment meant for critical national projects.

The Electricity Company of Ghana has faced criticism over the incident, prompting calls for a comprehensive review of security protocols at the port to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

The latest arrest has reignited public interest in the ECG cargo theft, with stakeholders urging the government to take swift action against those responsible. The energy sector regulator and ECG are expected to collaborate with law enforcement agencies to recover the stolen items and strengthen security measures.

The suspects are expected to be arraigned before court once investigations are complete.
