Parliament to Go on Recess July 31
Parliament is expected to adjourn sine die on Friday, July 31, 2026, bringing the second meeting of the Second Session of the Ninth Parliament to an end.
The House will proceed on recess after completing legislative business for the meeting, which featured the presentation of the 2026 mid-year budget review by Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson.
During the session, lawmakers considered and passed several major pieces of legislation aimed at addressing issues in governance, security, justice and social policy.
Among the key bills passed was the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, popularly known as the anti-LGBTQ+ Bill, which seeks to criminalise LGBTQ+ activities in Ghana.
Parliament also approved the Tribunals Bill, which provides for the establishment of regional and district tribunals to help reduce delays in the justice system and address the growing backlog of cases.
Another significant piece of legislation passed was the National Defence University Ghana Bill, which establishes the legal framework for the creation of a specialised university to support defence and security education.
The House also passed the Community Service Bill, introducing community service as an alternative sentencing option for persons convicted of certain offences.
The bill is expected to support rehabilitation efforts, reduce pressure on Ghana’s prison facilities and promote alternative approaches to custodial sentences.
The upcoming adjournment will mark the end of a parliamentary meeting characterised by major legislative decisions and economic discussions, including the government's review of the country’s fiscal performance and outlook for the remainder of 2026.
