The ministry has outlined several major initiatives that will be funded under this allocation:

  1. Procurement and Installation of Smart Meters
    • One million smart meters will be installed across various operational areas.
    • This falls under the Programme for Results policy aimed at reducing power losses and improving billing efficiency.
  2. Private Sector Involvement in Electricity Distribution
    • The ministry plans to introduce private sector participation to improve efficiency and service delivery.
    • This move is expected to attract investment and enhance technical capacity in the energy sector.
  3. Accra-Kumasi Transmission Line Project
    • A new high-voltage transmission line will be constructed to strengthen power reliability between Ghana’s two largest cities.
    • The project aims to reduce power fluctuations and support growing industrial demand.
  4. Government Goes Solar Initiative
    • A nationwide programme to promote clean and sustainable energy solutions through solar power.
    • This initiative will focus on installing solar panels on government buildings and public infrastructure.

The approval of the budget signals the government’s commitment to modernising the energy sector, reducing dependency on fossil fuels, and ensuring a stable and reliable power supply for Ghanaians.

Implementation of these projects is expected to boost economic growth, reduce energy costs, and strengthen Ghana’s position as a leader in renewable energy adoption in Africa.
