The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has called for a shift from dependence on politicians to a social contract for driving development in the Ashanti Region.
During a meeting with the World Bank Vice President for Western and Central Africa, the Asantehene emphasised the need for robust infrastructure as the foundation for progress.
“In terms of development, if we have the infrastructure, everything will be fine,” Otumfuo stated.

He criticised the reliance on political leaders, insisting, “I cannot depend on the politicians for my development. I don’t want to depend on them, so let’s have a social contract, and then we do it.”
His remarks have sparked discussions about community-led initiatives and partnerships to complement government efforts in addressing developmental challenges in the region.
