The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has officially declared former Finance Minister Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta wanted, following his failure to appear for questioning related to several corruption investigations.
The announcement was made public on February 17, 2025, through the OSP’s social media platforms, including Facebook and X.
According to the OSP, Ofori-Atta is being investigated for his alleged involvement in various financial irregularities, including the Strategic Mobilisation-GRA contract, the termination of the ECG-BXC contract, payments for the National Cathedral project, the ambulance procurement contract, and the use of the Tax Refund Account.

The OSP believes that Ofori-Atta may be residing in the United States or the United Kingdom.
The move has sparked mixed reactions across the political spectrum. Supporters of the OSP’s decision argue that it is a step toward ensuring accountability and transparency in Ghana’s public sector, holding officials responsible for their actions.
On the other hand, critics accuse the OSP of political motivation, suggesting that the action is aimed at tarnishing the reputation of a prominent figure from the previous administration.
Notably, some opposition members have raised concerns about the timing of the declaration, questioning whether due process is being followed and insisting that Ofori-Atta deserves a fair opportunity to respond to the allegations.
Ofori-Atta, who has not publicly addressed the warrant, is believed to be seeking medical care abroad. His legal team, in a statement, condemned the OSP’s actions as a “witch hunt” intended to undermine his legacy. They also confirmed that they had informed the OSP of Ofori-Atta’s overseas medical treatment.
In response to the growing controversy, the OSP has called on the public to provide any information about Ofori-Atta’s whereabouts through various hotlines and email channels.
