Nurse Appeals for Help After Kidney Failure Diagnosis

Ashida Abass Nyasu, a 29-year-old nurse at Tumu Municipal Hospital in the Sissala East Municipality of the Upper West Region, is in a desperate fight for her life after being diagnosed with kidney failure.

The mother of two, including a three-month-old baby she is still breastfeeding, received the devastating diagnosis on January 14, 2025, at the Upper West Regional Hospital. Doctors have recommended an urgent kidney transplant in India, with an estimated cost of USD 18,500—excluding travel, accommodation, and other related expenses.

Currently receiving treatment at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, Ashida and her family are grappling with the emotional and financial toll of her condition. “I have saved lives; now I need help to save my own,” Ashida said through tears. “I want to be there for my children, watch them grow, and continue my work as a nurse. Please, I am pleading for your support.”

The news has shaken her family and community. Her husband and children are struggling to cope, while friends, colleagues, and neighbours rally together to raise the funds needed to give her a second chance at life.

A widely shared screenshot detailing the transplant costs has underscored the urgency of the situation. Ashida’s family is appealing to the public, emphasising that every donation, no matter how small, can make a significant difference.

“She has always been there for others in need,” said one of her colleagues. “Now it’s our turn to be there for her.”

Donations and support are critical as Ashida’s family clings to hope, praying that the kindness of strangers will help secure the life-saving treatment she urgently needs.
