The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced that it will deliver a “True State of the Nation Address” on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, as a direct response to President John Dramani Mahama’s address on February 27.
In a statement dated February 28, the NPP accused President Mahama of presenting a one-sided and misleading account of the country’s economic and social conditions.
The party claims that critical national issues, including worsening power supply (dumsor), rising insecurity, illegal mining (galamsey), and increasing unemployment, were either downplayed or ignored in the President’s speech.

According to the NPP, the True State of the Nation Address will be delivered by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin and other party leaders in Parliament.
The address is expected to provide what the NPP describes as a more factual and objective assessment of Ghana’s current state under the Mahama-led administration.
The move sets the stage for heightened political debate as the opposition seeks to challenge the government’s narrative and present an alternative perspective to the Ghanaian people.
