The High Court in Kumasi has handed a resounding sentence to 36-year-old Dominic Afriyie, alias “GH”, who has been convicted of robbery and murder in a case that has drawn widespread public attention.
In a verdict delivered by Justice Abdul Razak, Afriyie was sentenced to 120 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for robbery and life imprisonment for the murder of a prominent pharmacist and building contractor, Michael Dela Agbo Klu.
According to details from the Ashanti Regional Police Command’s Public Affairs Unit, the incident dates back to November 20, 2021, when Afriyie broke into the Atasemanso residence of Mr Klu, armed with a gun.

During the violent attack, he made away with two mobile phones, an ASUS Zenbook laptop, and GH¢1,500 in cash. Tragically, the robbery ended with Afriyie fatally shooting Mr Klu before fleeing the scene.
The breakthrough in the case came after police received intelligence on December 30, 2021, regarding a planned robbery in the same locality. A swift operation led to the arrest of Afriyie and three other suspects in the early hours of December 31 while travelling in a Toyota Corolla. Officers recovered two pistols and two single-barrelled shotguns from the vehicle. Although Afriyie was linked with the group, investigations revealed he had acted alone in the Atasemanso murder-robbery case.
Despite pleading not guilty, Afriyie was found culpable by a seven-member jury, with Justice Razak concurring in a judgement that emphasised the gravity of the crime and its impact on the community.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command, in its statement, described the sentence as a significant milestone in its ongoing campaign to combat violent crime.
The Command also reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing justice and ensuring public safety, urging citizens to continue collaborating with law enforcement agencies.
