“Growth in Ghana’s telecommunications industry can be achieved if all stakeholders—regulators, policymakers, companies, and customers—collaborate effectively,” he stated.
The leadership of the Chamber, led by its Chairperson and CEO of Telecel Ghana, Ing. Patricia Obo-Nai, welcomed the Director-General’s commitment. They expressed optimism about fostering greater industry-government synergy to enhance digital transformation efforts and resolve pressing industry concerns.
The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration to support the NCA’s objectives, with discussions centring on:
✅ Protection of telecommunications infrastructure across Ghana
✅ Ending the persistent destruction of fibre optic cables
✅ Reviewing the high cost of power for industry players
✅ Assessing the numerous taxes and fees impacting industry growth
✅ Strengthening advocacy efforts on critical telecom matters
✅ Honouring payment obligations to support the NCA
✅ Addressing industry constraints to promote telecom sector growth
✅ Attracting more investments into Ghana’s telecommunications industry
During the meeting, the Chamber presented a copy of its Telecommunications Industry Optic Fibre Minimum Specifications and Standards Manual, a self-regulatory document developed using benchmarks from Europe, Egypt, and other countries with successful fibre deployment systems. The manual outlines minimum industry specifications for fibre optic cable deployment in Ghana.
Rev. Fianko acknowledged the importance of the document, pledging that it will be reviewed and considered for adoption as part of Ghana’s official telecom standards in collaboration with the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA).
“We will ensure these standards are incorporated into the list of standards the NCA will be sharing with the GSA for adoption this year,” he assured.
Both parties agreed to establish structured, regular engagements and maintain open channels for technical discussions to promote sustainable industry development.
With this renewed commitment to collaboration, the NCA and the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications aim to enhance industry operations, boost investments, and improve services for consumers across the country.
