The Western Regional Office of the National Security has uncovered a cache of electrical materials believed to be linked to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) uring an intelligence-led operation in Kansawurodo, a suburb of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.
Acting on a tip-off, operatives raided a concealed storage area within an uncompleted building and retrieved a significant number of high-value electrical components. The items included 46 cable drums, electrical switches, meters, meter cases, iron angle bars, and other critical materials typically used in power distribution.

The operation, led by National Security operative Hashim Torkonu, resulted in the arrest of two individuals for questioning.
Torkonu, speaking to Channel One News on Monday, April 7, noted that the materials were stashed under suspicious circumstances and could potentially be part of ECG’s reportedly missing assets.
“The stocks here are different from the ones we uncovered in a separate private residence owned by a contractor. In that case, the issue was how ECG materials ended up in a private home. Here, no one has yet claimed ownership,” he said. “We’ve also engaged nearby residents, and none appear to know who owns the materials.”
According to Torkonu, the matter is under active investigation and has been escalated to the appropriate authorities in Accra for further directives.
One of the suspects detained, Evans Lartey, claimed he is a certified ECG contractor. “I am a meter supplier,” he said. “If the ECG needs meters, they contact the meter suppliers to produce and deliver the cables. I have a valid contract with ECG.”
The discovery has added a new layer of complexity to the growing concern over the management and distribution of ECG resources, with ongoing investigations expected to reveal the legitimacy—or otherwise—of the stockpile.
