Ghana’s National Security operatives have intercepted a significant consignment of counterfeit money and suspected gold bars hidden inside twelve 20-foot shipping containers in a major operation aimed at cracking down on financial crime and illicit trade.
Acting on intelligence, security personnel raided a warehouse in Sapeiman, located within the Ga South Municipality, where they uncovered a sophisticated smuggling operation. The illegal stash had been carefully concealed to avoid detection.
Upon inspection, officers discovered bundles of fake US dollars packed in wooden boxes, which had been buried within cement blocks to evade security checks.
Further searches revealed counterfeit Ghana cedi notes, raising concerns about the potential circulation of fake currency within the country’s financial system.
In addition to the counterfeit money, authorities also seized a cache of fake Ghana Army uniforms and boots, suggesting possible plans for impersonation and security breaches.
The presence of these military items has heightened fears of potential criminal activities involving individuals posing as security personnel.
Authorities have confirmed that two of the twelve containers remain unaccounted for, prompting intensified efforts to track them down. National security operatives are working around the clock to locate the missing shipments, as they could contain additional illicit materials.
Meanwhile, a nationwide manhunt has been launched for four individuals believed to be connected to the operation, including a suspected ringleader identified only as Alhaji. Security agencies are collaborating with international partners to trace the suspects and uncover the full extent of the smuggling network.
In a statement, National Security assured the public that investigations are ongoing to dismantle the criminal syndicate behind the operation. Authorities have vowed to bring all perpetrators to justice and prevent similar threats to the nation’s economic and security interests.
“This operation is part of a broader effort to curb financial crimes and protect national security. We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that may compromise the safety of our communities,” a security official stated.
