My daughter is my pride; I will fight for her says Karen Baaba Sam

In an emotional revelation, 29-year-old Ghanaian Karen Baaba Sam has declared her five-year-old daughter as her greatest pride and motivation.

Despite facing numerous personal struggles, she remains determined to provide the best upbringing for her child, ensuring she grows into a strong and independent woman.

Baaba Sam acknowledges that her own childhood had its share of hardships, which influenced many of the decisions she made—some good, others regrettable.

However, she is committed to breaking the cycle and offering her daughter a stable and nurturing environment.

“I have a lot of ambitions in life, and I believe that through the grace of God, I will achieve them all. But my daughter is my topmost priority. She is a gift from God, and having her by my side is not negotiable. I will do everything within my power to protect and raise her,” she affirmed.

Baaba Sam came into the public eye when she bravely shared her story of alleged domestic violence and abuse at the hands of her former partner, Nana Kwadwo Adjei, a real estate developer. She lived with him for over five years, a period she now looks back on with regret. However, she finds solace in the fact that it brought her the greatest blessing—her daughter.

Speaking on recent reports suggesting she has refused to comply with a court order regarding custody, Baaba Sam dismissed them as a smear campaign orchestrated by her ex-partner.

“I know my ex, Nana Kwadwo Adjei, has rented the press. They are doing his bidding through their newspapers and online portals. But those publications do not bore me at all. When I see or read them, they only fuel my determination to fight even harder for full custody of my daughter and to give her the best care possible,” she asserted.

She expressed full confidence in the judicial process, stating, “My lawyers have filed various processes in court, and I trust that a good judge will be appointed to hear the case and adjudicate it to its logical conclusion.”

Karen Baaba Sam first broke her silence on her experiences of physical, verbal, and emotional abuse on January 20, 2025.

She recounted a chilling history of domestic violence that began in 2016 when she met Nana Kwadwo Adjei. What started as a seemingly loving relationship quickly turned toxic.

By 2018, when she became pregnant, Nana Adjei appeared thrilled, especially since most of his other children lived abroad with their mothers. However, the first signs of abuse surfaced later that year when his second son, who had been living with them, left after allegedly suffering physical violence from his father.

Baaba Sam recalls the first violent incident occurring in December 2018 when Adjei came home intoxicated after a night out. When she confronted him about his whereabouts, he responded with slaps and kicks, even striking her pregnant belly.

“I was more scared for my unborn child than for myself,” she recounted. A close friend, Leeroy, had to intervene, and Adjei later apologized, blaming alcohol for his actions.

However, the cycle of abuse continued for years. Karen frequently endured beatings, often resulting in visible bruises and swelling. Despite multiple reports filed by her brother at the East Legon Police Station, no action was taken. She claims Adjei openly boasted about his connections within the police force, making justice unattainable for her.

In April 2023, Baaba Sam decided she had suffered enough. The breaking point came when she encountered Adjei at a restaurant with another woman—his new girlfriend. When she attempted to leave with him in his car, the woman publicly humiliated her, and Adjei did nothing to stop it.

“When I got home, he beat me again, this time in the presence of our daughter,” she recounted. Two visiting family friends from Germany attempted to intervene, but Adjei physically assaulted them as well. During the altercation, he even kicked their daughter, causing her to fall and cry.

Determined to escape the abuse, Karen finally ended the relationship in December 2023. But the separation only escalated tensions. Adjei allegedly began issuing threats and demanded the return of everything he had ever given her, including their daughter’s school car. Fearing for her safety, she moved out in February 2024.

On her very first night in her new residence, she suffered a robbery at gunpoint, losing all her valuables. Suspicious of the timing, she found it alarming when Adjei later demanded the return of a specific necklace—the only valuable the robbers did not take. Authorities investigating the case suspected someone close to her had orchestrated the attack, prompting them to assign her police protection.

Despite all the trauma, Baaba Sam remains unwavering in her fight for justice and custody of her daughter. She insists that she will do whatever it takes to shield her child from the painful experiences she endured.

“I will not allow my daughter to grow up in an environment of fear and abuse. No child deserves that,” she said firmly.

Baaba Sam’s story is one of courage, resilience, and an unbreakable maternal bond. As her custody battle unfolds, she remains hopeful that the judiciary will recognize her plight and prioritize the best interests of her daughter.

With a fierce spirit and unwavering love for her child, she continues to push forward, determined to secure a brighter future for the person who matters most to her—her daughter.
