MTN One TV to Promote Ghanaian Culture Through Digital Storytelling
MTN Ghana Chief Digital Officer, Ibrahim Misto, says the launch of MTN One TV will help strengthen the presence of Ghanaian culture in the digital space by providing a platform for local stories to reach wider audiences.
He said Ghanaian films, television productions and other creative works reflect the country's history, languages, traditions and values, making their preservation and promotion essential as entertainment consumption increasingly shifts towards digital platforms.
Speaking at the launch of MTN One TV, Mr Misto said technology presented an opportunity not only to expand the commercial prospects of the creative industry but also to preserve the country's cultural identity.
“And while we talk about technology and commercial opportunity, we must not lose sight of culture. Our stories carry our history, languages, traditions, and values,” he said.
He explained that giving Ghanaian content greater visibility online would help ensure that future generations remained connected to the stories that define the country.
MTN One TV is a Pan-African video streaming service that offers local movies, series, live channels and international programming, with flexible viewing options for consumers.
Mr Misto said the platform would work with producers and content owners to expand the reach of Ghanaian film and television, improve content discovery and give emerging talent greater visibility.
He noted that Ghana had considerable creative talent, with filmmakers, actors, producers, writers, musicians and content creators producing works that entertain audiences and reflect the country's identity.
However, he said ensuring that these stories reached the audiences they deserved remained one of the major opportunities for the industry.
According to him, a stronger digital entertainment ecosystem could also generate new revenue for creative professionals, including writers, directors, actors, editors, technicians and production crews.
He encouraged content creators to take advantage of the platform to monetise their work and expand their reach, adding that the success of the initiative would benefit creators, the country and MTN.
Mr Misto further called for collaboration among content creators, broadcasters, telecommunications operators, technology providers, regulators and investors to attract investment and build a sustainable creative industry.
The launch coincides with MTN Ghana's 30th anniversary celebrations under the theme "30 Years of Progress, Powered by You".
He said MTN remained committed to supporting Ghana's digital economy through innovative platforms and partnerships that create opportunities for people and businesses.
Mr Misto urged stakeholders to use technology to give Ghanaian stories greater reach and build a creative industry that is competitive, sustainable and proudly Ghanaian.
