Mobile Money Vendor Shot Dead During Robbery in Aflao

A mobile money vendor has been shot and killed by unidentified armed robbers in Aflao, in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region.

The fatal incident occurred around 6:15 p.m. on Monday, April 28, according to Ketu South-based journalist Sylvia Awuye. The victim, identified as Christopher Ahordo—popularly known in the area as Colombo—was reportedly closing his shop later than usual when the attack happened.

Eyewitnesses say Colombo was preparing to shut down for the day at Gbagblakope, near the Diamond Cement Factory, when two masked men dressed in long robes approached his kiosk. Armed with pump-action shotguns, the robbers demanded his bag, believed to contain cash, and shot him in the chest before fleeing into a nearby bush.

The assailants fired warning shots into the air, preventing bystanders from intervening. Colombo is reported to have died on the spot.

Local residents later retrieved the body and transported it to the Ketu South Municipal Hospital mortuary. The municipal police have since launched an investigation into the killing.

This tragedy adds to the growing list of violent attacks targeting mobile money vendors in Ghana. Several similar robberies, particularly in the Ashanti Region, have resulted in deaths this year alone.

Residents and stakeholders are once again calling for increased security presence and better protection for mobile money operators across the country.
